WHO IS A FATHER IN THE LORD?

Understanding Fatherhood

WHO IS A FATHER IN THE LORD?

Beloved, before we go further into this revelation, let us settle one thing in our spirit: the word "father" did not begin on earth. It began in Heaven. The Hebrew word for father is "ab" (אָב), the root from which we get "Abba" — that tender, intimate cry Paul says the Spirit of adoption teaches us to utter

"For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father" (Romans 8:15).

A Father in the Lord is one in whom these five attributes are clearly seen:

That carries trust

You can safely deposit your life, your future, and your destiny into their hands. The Bible says,

“Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, but who can find a faithful man?” (Proverbs 20:6).

A spiritual father is that faithful man. When they speak, you believe; when they promise, you know it will come to pass. They walk in integrity, so trust is not forced, it is built naturally.

Points you to Christ

They never draw attention to themselves. Their goal is not to make you their follower, but to make you a follower of Jesus. John the Baptist understood this when he said,

“He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).

A true father in the Lord will always say,

“Look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2).

They are like signposts—they show you the way, but they do not become the destination.

Guidance

They have the wisdom to show you the path. The Scripture declares,

“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14).

They guide you not by force, but by revelation and wisdom. They understand the times and know what you ought to do

(1 Chronicles 12:32). They lead you beside still waters and restore your soul.

Make room for you to showcase your talent

They are not intimidated by your giftings. Instead, they create space for you to shine. This is the heart of God Himself, who gives gifts to men

“for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12).

A true father rejoices when you excel, because your success is their success. They are like Joseph, who brought his family into the best of the land so they could flourish.

They don’t impose instructions

They lead by love and example, not by dictatorship. The Apostle Paul wrote,

“Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy” (2 Corinthians 1:24).

They speak the truth in love, allowing the Holy Spirit to do the work of conviction in your heart. They guide, they advise, they warn—but they do not force you. They respect your free will, knowing that true obedience comes from the heart, not from pressure.

ELI AND SAMUEL: A PERFECT EXAMPLE

You can see all these attributes clearly in the life of Eli, who was a father in the Lord to Samuel.

Even though Eli had his own challenges and his household was not perfect, God used him mightily to raise a prophet. This teaches us a deep theological truth: We do not look for perfect men; we look for men who carry the grace and the anointing of God.

Samuel was receiving training on how to walk with the Lord from Eli—a man with a broken home. Yet, under Eli's covering, Samuel grew and the Lord was with him. This shows that the office of a father in the Lord is different from his personal perfection. God can use a vessel despite its clay, because the power is of God, not of the vessel (2 Corinthians 4:7).

FATHER IN THE LORD IN EVERY SYSTEM

Many times, we try to box God inside religion alone. But the Bible says God is “the Creator of the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 40:28). He is the God who created the heavens and the earth, and He is also the God who established the systems of this world.

Therefore, just as there are fathers in the church, there are also Fathers in the Lord operating in every sphere of life. They are the ones God has raised to bring order, wisdom, and prosperity into their fields.

The Head of all fathers in the Lord is God Himself. The Bible says, “Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named” (Ephesians 3:15). From Him flows every true fatherhood.

We find them in these systems:

Family – Those who guide generations and keep the covenant alive.

Religion – Those who guard the truth and feed the flock.

Education – Those who impart knowledge and wisdom with fear of God.

Business – Those who understand kingdom principles for wealth and management.

Politics – Those who rule with justice and the fear of the Lord.

Entertainment / Art – Those who use their gifts to inspire and uplift.

Media – Those who communicate truth and shape values rightly.

MEN ARE GOD’S STRATEGY ON EARTH

The Scripture reveals a profound mystery: “Men are the strategy of God on earth.”

God does not usually descend from heaven to do things directly; He works through men. That is why the Bible says,

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15).

Through men you can prosper in every system.

There is a difference between your biological father and your father in the Lord.

Your biological father gave you life, and the Bible commands us:

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12).

However, your biological father may not be the one to make you prosper in marriage, or in business, or in ministry—simply because he is not your father in that system. But when you find the man God has ordained to be your father in that area, and you submit to their guidance, you will prosper.

This is the wisdom we need to understand and operate in this end time.

WHAT WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND

1. Your father in the Lord is not perfect in the way you think.

Do not reject a man of God because you see his human side. Remember Eli. Remember that even great men of faith like David, Abraham, and Moses made mistakes. The question is not “Is he perfect?” but “Is God with him?” and “Does he carry the grace I need?”

The anointing does not flow because of perfection; it flows because of covenant and calling.

2. The Mystery of the Voice: "My sheep hear his voice"

Jesus said,

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27).

There is something called spiritual frequency. You might be listening to a message that is true, biblical, and correct—but it is not producing results in your life. Why? Because it is not your voice. It is not the sound assigned to your destiny.

But the day you listen to the voice of your true father in the Lord:

- It is the same truth,

- It is the same Word of God,

- But the presentation, the tone, the anointing—fits your spirit perfectly.

Suddenly, things begin to work! Doors open! Breakthroughs come!

This is why discernment is needed. You must be able to distinguish between the voice of a stranger and the voice of your shepherd. Do not just follow crowds. Follow the voice that speaks to your spirit, the one that brings life and light to your soul.

This is a revelation that will change your life and your destiny. Open your eyes to see the fathers God has placed around you, honor them, connect to them, and you will prosper in every area of life.
